Standard Computer Labs

Standard Computer Labs

Computer Labs have proliferated in schools since the 1980s. Today's labs are powerful tools that can be used for many purposes. Standard computer labs typically are a designated room with desktop and/or stationary computers.

Here are some simple tips for working with a computer lab:

  • Reserve the lab early Usually this is done through the library or media center.
  • Set your expectations With Internet access, computers can be big distractions for students. Let them know before going to the lab what is expected.
  • Monitor the room by walking around while helping students
  • Know how to do the Simple Things Schools often have special procedures for seemingly simple functions like saving and printing documents, etc. These tasks may require server access and log-in passwords. Your media center or support staff can help with this.
  • If you assign something requiring Internet access, test the sites at school. School filters sometimes block legitimate sites, so be prepared.
